Pfizer is seeking a Veterinary Clinical Research Associate in Poultry for its downtown Kalamazoo location. This is a full-time job.

Job Description

The incumbent will be assigned to one or more Project Teams within Clinical Development and will have the following duties and responsibilities:

• Assist with coordination of all study activities, including start up, investigator training, conduct, site monitoring and close out.

These may include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting in preparation of study protocols, data capture forms, test article documentation and study reports.

• Maintaining study files in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

• Assisting in data management processes including data capture, entry, review, tracking and verification.

• Assisting with animal related study activities (i.e. clinical sampling, test article administration, and clinical observations).

• Serving as the principal communication link between sponsor and study site.

Work Environment

The person hired for this job works in animal research facilities handling a variety of livestock animals and/or companion animals. There may be exposure to animal wastes, chemicals and biologics and possibly radio-labeled compounds.

Work will be conducted in office, lab, clinic, bio-containment and animal housing facilities. There may be exposure to temperature, climate extremes and dirty and dusty conditions.

Flexible work hours may be required.

Lifting: May be up to 40-60 pounds.

Desired Skills and Experience

Educational Background:

• Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a science field. Bachelor’s degree in a non-science field with at least two year’s experience in the livestock industry, a veterinary technician position, a biological science area, or research experience in an academic institution or the pharmaceutical industry.

• Desirable: Master’s degree

Work Experience/Skills:

• Minimum: Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills.

• Desirable: Experience and interest in working with poultry is preferred. May also have experience working with livestock including cattle (dairy/beef) and swine, as well as companion animals, which may include horses, dogs, and cats. Previous experience in a research environment (GCP/GLP) and/or previous experience in research/product development in the animal health industry.

Other Desirable Attributes:

Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel. Additional database software experience helpful.

Responsibilities:

The person hired for this position is responsible for the daily activities of the Clinical Pathology Set-ups area, including preparing and labeling collection tubes and containers for the In-Life departments; setting up Provantis instrument worksheets; preparing sample receipt paperwork; and preparing and labeling aliquot tubes and containers for the Clinical Pathology Lab.

Duties and Responsibilities – purpose of the function and result to be accomplished include but are not limited to those listed:

· Prepare and verify HCU / TK / client sample collection and aliquot tubes, daily, as appropriate.

· Complete Provantis worksheet set-up, reordering, and label printing, daily.
· Prepare and verify sample receipt paperwork, daily.

· Complete Provantis data collection and save Provantis reports, as required.
· Record refrigerator and / or freezer temperatures, as required.

· Use pipettes to aliquot samples and / or protocol-driven additives, as assigned.

· Use the following applications daily: Microsoft Office Suite, Provantis (In-Life module, Clinical Pathology Supervisor module, Labeling module), CSU Database (Microsoft Access), Task List Database (Microsoft Access), and eDocs.

· Read, understand, and follow study protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, regulatory guidelines (e.g. GLP), and company policies.

· Create and maintain clear and detailed documentation of all procedures, practices, techniques, and training incompliance with GLP standards.

· Provide input into assignments and think ahead with demonstrated planning skills.

· Notify Project Leader or Manager of problems identified that affect the integrity of data or assigned tasks in a timely manner.

· Primarily work independently, but group members will assist each other in bringing tasks and / or projects to successful completion.

· Complete all assigned events in eDocs, 100 percent of the time.

· Punctually and reliably -- attend according to MPI Research company policy.

Qualifications:
· BA / BS in relevant field (Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred); or

· HS / GED.

· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

The Fetzer Institute seeks a Director of Communications to develop and implement a communications strategy that will advance the Institute's identity and broaden awareness of its programs and impact. 

As a member of the Senior Program Leadership Team, the Director of Communications will interact with all Institute staff and Trustees and provide assistance to the Vice President of Programs and International Affairs, President and Board of Trustees to enable them to make major strategic program decisions and carry out the Institute's vision and mission. 

The Director of Communications will report to the Vice President of Programs and International Affairs. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the communications strategy, including messaging, media relations, and content that inform audiences of the goals and results of the Institute's programs and events.

• Serve as a member of the Senior Program Leadership Team, working with other members to integrate all aspects of the Institute's programming, including the Fetzer Advisory Council structure and the Global Gathering, a major international Symposium in Assisi, Italy in September 2012. Lead and coordinate a process for branding the Institute's mission and work under its new Fetzer Advisory Council structure. Collaborate with the Director of Programs and the Director of International Events to integrate the programmatic work of the Institute into the Global Gathering.

• Oversee development of all communications including web site and new media, print publications, special reports, and internal communications. Coordinate web site development activities and oversee the use of social media platforms to communicate the Institute's mission and work. Ensure a work atmosphere that reflects the Institute's values and guiding principles. Assess performance and develop annual goals and objectives and professional growth and personal development plans for direct reports. Recommend staff salaries, promotions, or program staff changes annually or as appropriate. Meet regularly with communications and program staff to review and share ideas and work in a collaborative and integrated style.

• Collaborate with communications with program staff to offer and elicit innovative ideas for communicating the Institute's work and impact. Work with the staff to identify internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.

• Manage communications related budgets, including reviewing and approving all expense payments, timesheets and travel, responding to requests for consultants and other expenses. Assist in the development of the annual Communications budget process.

• Ensure appropriate management of program resources, project budgets, contracts and overall fiscal management.

• Attend all meetings and events including full-staff development events to foster an understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and goals of the Institute, monthly Institute staff meetings, board meetings. Serve on Institute teams and committees as appropriate.

Job Description

This person hired for this position is responsible for ensuring compliance to federal and state law as it applies to safety and security policies and procedures in a structured team environment.

•  Responsible for implementing and executing safety programs that effectively controls accident, health and property loss exposures in the company.

• This position will also have responsibility for all activities required by worker's compensation laws, OSHA and corporate policy for the adjustment and mitigation of claims and financial losses to the company.

•  Directs, monitors and performs accident investigations, safety inspections and internal / external audits.

• Responsible for the analysis, preparation and maintenance of mandatory/regulatory related safety and environment reports/records, maintain OSHA 300 log.

• Implements corporate and local safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

• Implement security/loss control policies as they relate to employee, visitor, trucker and contractor activities while on company property.

• Direct safety orientations for new employees as well as manager safety training programs.

• Develop and direct safety programs such as HazComm, LOTO, Ergonomics, PIT, PPE, Confined Space, Hearing Conservation and Industrial Hygiene.

• Demonstrate high visibility on the plant floor and positive attitude in order to establish an effective and responsible safety culture.

• Responsible for providing guidance and support to extended safety resources: Safety Links and Element Teams.
• Acts as a resource to plant leadership teams regarding all safety / security operations, will work with all levels of employees.

• Manage and oversee employee return to work program, provide follow up with employee, doctor and leadership for each injury/illness/incident

• Report all injuries to the insurance provider and corporate, monitor claim and follow up with insurance provider as needed to manage worker compensation.

• Other special projects and duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

Education: BS / BA Safety, Environmental Health is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
•  Experience leading change in a single large site or multiple site environment.

•  Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.

•  Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and leadership.

•  Possesses excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written).

•  Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

•  Must possess excellent organizational and analytical skills.

•  Able to prioritize, work efficiently and accurately as well as provide and follow instructions.

•  Must be available for 24/7 manufacturing operations, including weekend and off shift hours.

•  Ability to travel up to 25 percent.
