Advanced Manufacturing Engineer sought by Johnson Controls

Johnson Controls is seeking an advanced manufacturing engineer for its Battle Creek, Mich., operation.  

Job Description
• Lead "Design for Manufacture" (DFM) reviews, on assigned programs with product engineering team(s), including GD&T review of product(s).

• Develop "Technical Specification Package" (TSP) including PFEMA, process flow, performance requirements, product safety templates, machine safety and ergonomic specifications (SESS/SEGG), environmental requirements (ISO 14001) and specific customer requirements. TSP also includes OEM documentation requirements, Pre and Post launch support requirements and ultimate sign-off criteria the equipment OEM will be held accountable to, in order to get final payment rendered.

• Work with production plant to assure staffing, plant layout and utility needs and timing are understood and agreed upon.

•  With Program Management, identify capital, expense and resource needs to execute. With PM, author capital expenditure requests (CARs) and report on status (timing and expenditures) against them, including deviations, delays and potential risks to program timing. Penning of requisitions and delivery and tracking of purchase orders to vendors will also be involved.

•  Manage equipment OEMs to program timing expectations and deliverables. Maintain "Open Issues Lists" (OILs) on both equipment and manufacturing development. Drive resolution to ensure program needs are addressed.

• Attend and report out in scheduled SDT meetings with program team(s) on status to above activities.

• Work with the production plant to assure timely and proper installation and qualification of the capital equipment occurs, program expectations are met (financial and performance) and a smooth and effective transition and hand-off is realized.

Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
• Engineering Degree (or equivalent experience), prefer ME, IE or EE
• 10+ years experience in manufacturing (prefer automotive or related)

• Ability to work as part of a team towards common goals but with separate but often crossing areas of responsibility.

Desired Skills and Experience
The Technical Director must have at a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in chemical, environmental, chemical engineering with at least 24 college semester credit hours in chemistry and at least 5 years of experience in environmental analysis of inorganic and organic analytes for which the lab seeks or maintains NELAC accreditation. A thorough knowledge of EPA SW846 methodology and Standard methods is necessary along with experience in NELAC quality control systems and procedures. A masters or doctoral degree in one of the above disciplines may be substituted for one year of experience. This position reports directly to the President of the firm.
