Join the discussion on Good Food Kalamazoo

There are ways to help those across Kalamazoo eat food that is healthy, green, fair and affordable. The Good Food Roundtable is meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12, to discuss them.

The coalition has been exploring for the past two years how to localize the food system and make it more sustainable. It has been drawing on the statewide efforts of the Michigan Good Food Charter.

The Roundtable conversation is intended to develop a broader community awareness of the needs and opportunities. Representatives from KVCC's Healthy Living Campus and Kelly Clarke from the Kalamazoo County Land Bank will each give a 10 minute presentation.

Good Food Kalamazoo is a coalition of food and hunger-fighting organizations formed to pursue three goals: Support a thriving economy of farms and food businesses sustain farmers, owners, and workers and contribute to vibrant Michigan communities; promote sustainability through the diverse and resilient food system that protects the local cultural, ecological and economic assets; achieve equity, in which all people have access to good, Michigan-grown food, and our young people can thrive.

Good Food Kalamazoo includes community members from Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, People's Food Co-op, Fair Food Matters, Michigan Food Policy Council, Michigan Farmers Market Association, and Michigan Land Trustees.

The Roundtable will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, 901 Portage Street. Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.
