Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. expands in Kalamazoo

A number of projects in Southwest Michigan has encouraged the commercial construction company Owen-Ames-Kimball to locate offices in downtown Kalamazoo.

The Grand Rapids-based company with 122 years of history will locate on the ground floor of the Haymarket Building, 161 E. Michigan Ave. in Kalamazoo. The 1,800 square foot office will open with three full-time employees and the company plans to add more staff in the coming year as work demands.

Tom Stanek will head up the Kalamazoo office. His responsibilities include business development, resource management and overall project success for all projects out of the Kalamazoo office. He comes with 24 years commercial construction experience in Southwest Michigan. He also is a graduate of Western Michigan University.

Owen-Ames-Kimball is an employee-owned firm with 62 corporate shareholders. Most of the project superintendents and project managers who manage daily operations of the firm's construction projects are owners of the company, invested personally and professionally in the success of each project.

The company also has historic roots in Southwest Michigan, having completed construction projects including additions and gymnasium construction at Old Kalamazoo Central High School in 1912 and Fort Custer in 1940.

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. oversees more than $150 million of construction each year, specializing in educational, commercial, industrial and community-driven projects.

“Having a true local presence is very important to us at O-A-K. All of our projects are intertwined with the communities in which they’re built,” says President & CEO, Frank Stanek. “We have multiple projects in progress in Southwest Michigan and look forward to continued growth in the region. We want to show the Kalamazoo community that we are fully committed to the people and organizations in this area.”
