Lynx Network Group is helping to build the fiber optic network that will connect businesses, schools and others in rural Michigan to advanced, high-speed Internet service.
To keep up with the work, the company of 10 expects to hire two employees in May and bring another one or two on board before the end of the year, says General Manager Scott Windemuller.
Lynx Network Group, founded in 2003, also anticipates having employees come together from various area locations to an office in Kalamazoo sometime in 2011.
The company, which has specialized in reselling telecommunication services, has now expanded into construction of the fiber network and the current project is its first major project of this nature.
Expansion into the new field became possible for the company when it received matching funds through the broadband infrastructure project of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Through the project, the government provides 80 percent of the funding and the company 20 percent of the funds for the work.
Lynx Network Group recently received a portion of the money it needs to make its match. Plymouth Venture Partners Fund has invested $5 million in Lynx Network Group. The telecommunications firm will continue to seek $2 million it must raise to match the funds made available.
Windemuller describes Lynx Network Group as a company with a unique approach to customer service for a telecommunications company, saying it works to take the complication out of invoicing, billing and other services that typically aggravate customers when they deal with telecommunication companies.
The result, Windemuller says, has been steady growth for the company -- about 350 percent over four years and revenues of about $4.6 million in 2010.
"It's easy to be a customer with us," Windemuller says.
