Getman Corp. brings 150 jobs to Comstock Township

A global supplier of mobile equipment to the mining industry, Getman Corp., recently announced plans to open its second manufacturing facility in Southwest Michigan and create 150 manufacturing jobs related to the underground mining equipment industry.

Getman Corp. plans to invest more than $6 million in building renovations, machinery and equipment at 3030 Kersten Court in Comstock Township. The expansion comes as a result of increased mining around the world for industrial and precious metals.

The new facility is expected to open in January.

Getman Corp. currently employs 165 skilled workers in Bangor.

Company officials say they considered alternate locations in northern Indiana, but selected Kalamazoo County based on the availability of skilled industrial craft people and proximity to their headquarters located in Bangor.

Comstock Township and the Michigan Business Development Program also offered incentives to the company.

"Expanding our workforce and facilities is critical to meeting the growing demand for our product as we strive to become the globally preferred partner in our class of equipment," says Erik VanAllen, president and chief executive officer of Getman Corp. "We are proud to be part of the Southwest Michigan community and look forward to laying a foundation for growth in Comstock Township."

Founded in South Haven in 1971, Getman Corp. is a third generation company. It sells and supports an extensive line of production and production support equipment which includes explosives chargers, utility vehicles and coal equipment.
