As they manned the controls of the electric underwater robot, fifth-grade students from Dudley Science, Technology, Engineering and Math School visiting the Outdoor Education Center laughed and shouted.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the robot was zipping through Clear Lake about 50 yards away. A flat screen TV in the back of the SUV showed the students what the robot saw as they plowed it through the weeds and sand at the lake's bottom.

"This is a real, hands-on learning experience," said Mark Gleason, chief marine scientist of the Muskegon-based Great Lakes Naval Memorial & Museum. "I've had a robot just like this at the bottom of Lake Superior ... This is a real tool used for real research."
