A partner with Abraxas who helped lead the company as it moved into providing document and records management services to businesses in highly regulated industries, such as law and medicine will be the next person to be interviewed for Startup Grind.
Charles Fierke will offer insights that can be applied to other companies at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 at Maestro, 401 E. Michigan, Suite 202, Kalamazoo, above Food Dance.
The fireside interview is the second in the local Startup Grind series.
Over the last 7 years, Abraxas (formerly Team Support Services) has developed systems that facilitate rerecords indexing and storage in a very specific way that addresses the needs of highly regulated industries, including life science, healthcare, insurance, and finance sectors.
The company got its start in 2000 and it realized an opportunity to grow two years later when it was asked to help a Michigan-based law firm representing one of the parties in a large intellectual property litigation case. The case required setting up several large data center review sites across Michigan. In the case’s more than 18 month discovery phase, over 122 million pages of documents were reviewed. From that grew Abraxas focusing its attention more on litigation support. Now it scans and codes thousands boxes of material annually to serve Fortune 100 & 500 companies.
Fierke's role in the company has changed over the years from leading Operations, IT, Service Development, Account Management, and now most recently in the Business Development aspect of the business.
The event kicks off Global Entrepreneurship Week in Kalamazoo. In another related event,
Starting Gate is celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week with an open house in its new location, at 161 E. Michigan Ave. Suite 400B. The open house is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 20. Entrepreneurs currently working in Starting Gate will be on hand to describe their products. There also will be snacks and drinks provided.
