OptimedPharmacy now open on Kalamazoo Mall

OptiMed is doubling its presence in Kalamazoo with the opening of a new pharmacy downtown. The pharmacy has been a fixture in the community for nearly 20 years and now is opening a second location on the Kalamazoo Mall in the newly reconstructed Corporation Hall.

 

The pharmacy has a retail operation of about 2,300 square feet on one level and 4,500 square feet on the lower level for pharmacy work and space for some of the special services OptiMed provides. 

 

Customers will find special services that include: personalized care medicine, based on the study of individualized response to medications; the med-pak program, in which medications are packaged with the date and time a patient needs to take them; compounded medications, for situations such as when the patient is a child who cannot take a pill and needs a liquid version of a medication, or a patient cannot tolerate one or more of the components of a manufactured drug such as preservatives; and skin care, primarily anti-aging and such services as skin peels eventually will be offered.

 

Some services currently offered at the Oakland Drive location will be moving downtown, says Andy Reeves, of OptiMed.

 

There will be some products of a non-medicinal nature, but most will be health related, Reeves says. For example, some gluten free foods and dark chocolate with the health benefits it promotes will be on the shelves. 

 

The pharmacy will employ six people full time, including two full-time pharmacists and a store manager among others.Reeves, who hs worked 19 years as a pharmacist for OptiMed has been busy getting the new location ready for a March 1 opening. 

 

Reeves is impressed with the care the owners of the building have taken to build green features into it and looks forward to the day that a television monitor will display how much less carbon the building is using compared to other similar buildings.
