Bronson builds rehab, skilled nursing facility in Mattawan

Bronson HealthCare is expanding into Mattawan with a new 76,300-square-foot rehabilitation and skilled nursing community, Bronson Commons.

Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2013 is expected to open in August of that year, pending necessary approvals from state regulatory agencies it. Official groundbreaking on the project took place June 18.

The facility at 23332 Red Arrow Highway will have 100 private rooms and is located on a 41-acre site next to Van Buren Emergency Medical Services, a not-for-profit ambulance company owned by Bronson.

Bronson Commons will have 150 employees. They will a provide its residents with a wide range of services and programs tailored to meet their individual needs, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, wound care, chronic disease management, psychiatry, hearing, podiatry, dental and vision services.

It features separate rehabilitation and long-term care areas. At the heart of the facility is a cafe and dining area designed to be filled with light and provide a welcoming space for residents, their families and visitors to gather.

The new facility will be located part way between Bronson Methodist Hospital in downtown Battle Creek and Bronson LakeView in Paw Paw. Services currently provided at Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawton will be relocated  to Bronson Commons.
