Borgess brings bariatric services under one roof

When it comes to states with overweight residents Michigan comes in at No. 10 in the Center for Disease Control's ranking.

It doesn't have to be that way. For those who want help losing weight, Borgess Bariatric Center now is making it easier by bringing all its services under one roof.

Dieticians, psychotherapists, sleep aid specialists, internal medicine and medical weight management services are now located in Suite 124 of the North Professional Building on the Borgess Medical Center Campus on Gull Road.

Bariatric program leader Rebecca Blades says the move has been a goal for a number of years. "When I got here in 2004 the biggest concern I heard was that all our services were scattered all over."

Her primary goal was to make sure the Bariatric Center was providing excellent service. In 2009, Borgess Bariatric Center was a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  The designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.

Having reached that goal, the next was bringing all the services to one place, as patients suggested.

The public is invited to an open house for the Borgess Bariatric Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29.

Borgess Bariatric Center professionals will be available to answers questions about bariatric procedures and weight loss management services including dietary, psychotherapy, sleep aid, internal medicine and medical weight management.

Blades says the center can work with the full range of those who want to lose weight from the overweight to the morbidly obese.

More information is available by calling 269-226-7559 or visiting the Bariatrics Center web pages.
