Alamo Draft House tells opening date

Since the Alamo Draft House announced it was moving into the movie theater space formerly run by the Rave, people have asked when the theater was opening. Nov. 18 is the date.

 

Those who want to get an early taste of what's going on at  Kalamazoo's Alamo Drafthouse Cinema can go to staff training days Nov. 15, 16 and 17. They will get 50 percent off food and non-alcoholic beverages.

 

The theater's interiors have been designed to provide space for the theater's "ninja servers" to pick up orders and deliver food and drinks. The company says the layout also gives movie patrons great sightlines, no matter where you sit. There is reserved seating in all auditoriums so that you can select the seat you prefer seat when you buy your ticket.

 

The 10 theaters feature Sony 4k digital projection, equipped for both high-frame-rate and RealD 3D presentations.  

 

Michael Madsen will attend the theater's ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 19. He'll host screenings of two of his films -- Reservoir Dogs on  Nov. 19 and  Thelma & Louise on Nov. 20. He will answer questions following each show.

 

Much more is planned for the opening weekend. On Thursday, Nov. 21, there will be a double feature of "The Hunger Games" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."  Alamo will have its  Anti-Hunger Games, with help from Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes and the People's Food Co-op: Beginning Nov. 20 and continuing through  the holidays. They  will collect  non-perishable food for Loaves & Fishes. Everyone who donates can register to win prizes.

 

There's also the "Pulp Fiction Quote-Along" on Nov. 20 and the "Totally '80s Sing-Along" on Nov. 22. And lots more.

Alamo Draft House has hired 150 employees to staff the theater.
